Carved in Stone

Connor Stone has always been odd man out in his family. Not the oldest, not the most charming, he'd had a lock on the youngest until another half-sibling came to live with them, so he raised hell in his youth. Con knows now the only way to redeem himself is with deeds, not words and sets out to prove once and for all he is worthy of the Stone family. When his older brother asks him to take care of business, Con finally will have redemption he craves. Except when Ava Sanchez, his brother's assistant, is threatened, he must choose between saving the girl or protecting his family. Will his choice bring him love or break his heart?

Heart of Stone

Riley Stone is the handsome brother, the charming one. Everyone who meets him compares him to his father, which in his mind is not a compliment. But he's never met a woman he couldn't charm, until he meets Di, an acerbic, smart-mouthed, passionate activist who has no time for him or his charm. On the run, in the midst of danger, the blistering passion they share explodes. Can these two opposites find common ground, or will Di smash Riley's stone heart?

And coming soon....

About Lisa

Lisa Hughey has been writing romance since the fourth grade, which was also about the time she began her love affair with spies. Harriet and Nancy Drew and the Hardy Boys later gave way to James Bond and Lara Croft and Jason Bourne. Exploring the complex nature of a profession that requires subterfuge and lies fascinates her. She loves combining her two passions into fiction. As evidenced by her Black Cipher Files series.

Archangel Rafe was her first foray into the paranormal but after spending time in the Angelic Realm, it won't be her last. At their heart, the Seven novels are about the dynamics of family relationships. But the really hot Archangels don't hurt.

And recently she's been immersed in the Stone Family novellas, four stories about a blended family of brothers and sister who have a lot more in common than they realize. But of course she couldn't just write about family and romance. There are complex plots, bad guys, and suspense too.

Lisa loves to hear from readers and has various places you can connect with her, although, shh, Twitter is her favorite.

Stone Cold Heart Family Stone #1 Jess Family Stone Romantic Suspense edition by Lisa Hughey Romance eBooks

This is the first book I've read by this author and I enjoyed it. The story was well written and had an interesting plot with some nice twists thrown in. The characters were original and I loved the idea of a female sniper! The author introduces all the members of the family, but concentrated her character building on the only sister in the Stone family, Jess. I assume each family member will get their own story until we know them all. The male lead, Colin, was a cool character, but I don't feel that the author spent as much time with his character growth as she did with Jess. I enjoyed this fast read and hope that Jess and Colin feature in more of the Family Stone stories. There are hot sexual scenes in this story and some mild violence.
Heat factor hot.

Stone Cold Heart Family Stone #1 Jess Family Stone Romantic Suspense edition by Lisa Hughey Romance eBooks Reviews

A nice romantic suspense between 2 professionals, albeit they're both killers. Short and sweet fits this book to a tee. Though it has quite a few typos, nothing that can't be overlooked, but why not fix it? It's so easy to upload a properly edited edition today. I definitely liked the interaction between the 2 main characters and the love scenes were well choreographed. This is a good introduction to the family of Stones and their business.
The only reason this is 4 stars is because I would have loved to read a much longer story about Jess and Colin. The novella gives snippets of how they met the first time which adds intensity to their interactions during this story and allows for a quick read, BUT I really wanted to read the whole story not just the abbreviated version. I loved Jess and Colin and wanted to learn more about them. I enjoyed the author’s writing style and I’m looking forward to the next full length books in this series.
I picked up this book after reading this author story in the Camp Firefly series. This story is part of a series based on a military family of 3 brothers and their stepsister. This book is the sister's book. It's overall a good quick read. Basically Jess was a sniper and decided she needed something new. This isn't a spoiler because it's said nearly every chapter, which is why this is a 3 star from me, it also ended rather abruptly.
I obtained this free e-book from and I am voluntarily writing a review. I normally do not read anything under 100 pages and I am so glad that was not the case here. I loved the plot Jess is ex FBI sniper and has gone to work for her step brothers humanitarian agency and has been assigned to deliver seed packets and purified water tablets to a devastated country hit by an earthquake. She finds out her hook up from six months ago is the man in charge of this relief effort and there is a little more to this than she counted on.
This book has a strong, sexy, and smart heroine. A sexy and strong hero, and the sexual tension between them has sparks flying. There is enough danger, suspense, passion, spice, action and intrigue to keep a reader’s interest. The story line is one that has you sad and happy all at the same time. Once I started reading this book I couldn't put it down. I look forward to reading more in this series. I enjoyed reading and can recommend to everyone who reads this genre... I received this book as a gift and voluntarily give this review.
I am not a novella fan, but kudos to Ms. Hughey for creating two intense, passionate characters and then tossing them into danger. Is the plot too simplistic? Yes. "The deplorable conditions for the people of Port-du-Bois had improved almost overnight." Hmm... probably not.

Would I have liked more character development? Absolutely. The problem is that it is almost impossible to do more in 85 pages. It is an entertaining, short, sexy read.

There are a few problems with word tense and a couple of eye-rolling moments. Note to self Don't have sex in a brightly lit tent surrounded by aid workers

A few times I felt like the author was bashing me over the head by repeating information.

"When she'd decided to take control of her life and quit the FBI, she hadn't wanted to do this any more."

"... now here she was, where she'd sworn she never wanted to be again."

"She didn't want this choice. She’d given up this kind of life." We get it! Jess is being asked to do something she doesn't want to.

Trust your readers. We don't need to be told multiple times that the leading characters have already had sex or that Colin owes Jack a favor for saving his life.
I put this story in my "Mediocre" category of book collections. I liked the story line as far as little sister getting out of the FBI to work with her brothers humanitarian organization only to find out they're involved in more covert operations. The danger factor had just the right amount of suspense. The sexual connection with the hero was great, but the time and places their sex encounters took place were totally unrealistic and drew something away from the suspense and danger of their situations. I would have enjoyed it more if the sexual tension had built up a little longer and the scenes took place in a believable time and place as in the prologue. It felt like the sex was just thrown in there wherever to make the story erotic. Not sure if I'll read any more of the books in the series.
